SmallHD has unveiled the OLED 16, a 16-inch 4K production monitor that pairs an OLED panel’s near-infinite contrast and true blacks with a rugged, set-ready chassis. It brings true 10-bit color, integrated WiFi, professional-grade I/O, and four new machined multi-function dials for navigating the company’s PageOS toolkit, priced at $5,999 and available now for pre-order.
SmallHD’s OLED line has historically lived at the high end of its catalog, anchored by the OLED 22 and the $11,999 OLED 27. The new OLED 16 slots in below both in size and price while keeping the panel technology that has always defined the series: self-emissive pixels that switch off entirely for true blacks, with none of the backlight haloing that plagues edge-lit and full-array LCDs. It is positioned squarely at DITs and DPs who want reference-grade contrast in a panel small enough to live on a cart, a stand, or at Video Village without dominating the workspace.

The OLED 16 carries a 3840 x 2160 (UHD) resolution and true 10-bit color, with a contrast ratio rated above 1,000,000:1 and a minimum black point of 0.005 nits. Maximum brightness is listed at up to 400 nits, which is consistent with OLED’s strengths in contrast and shadow rendering rather than daylight punch, so this is a monitor for tented carts and controlled environments rather than open-sun viewing. SmallHD frames the appeal around infinite contrast, true blacks, shadow detail, precise color reproduction, and zero haloing, all of which are the practical reasons a colorist or DIT reaches for OLED over LCD in the first place.
There is a point worth flagging on color gamut. SmallHD’s product page lists 100% DCI-P3 and 80% Rec.2020 coverage, while the company’s launch text cites 99% DCI-P3 and 97% Rec.2020. The Rec.2020 figures in particular diverge significantly, and we would treat the lower published spec-sheet number as the conservative reference until SmallHD reconciles the two. Either way, full DCI-P3 coverage on a true 10-bit OLED is the headline that matters for on-set look management.

The unibody chassis is machined from aircraft-grade aluminum, and the monitor weighs 10.4 lbs (4.72 kg). SmallHD describes the 16-inch size as an optimal panel for side-by-side viewing, the kind of setup where a DIT compares feeds or a DP checks a shot against a reference, and the hardware is built to mount on DIT carts, DP stands, or at Video Village. A Smart Rail Connector and a 100mm VESA-compatible mount provide multiple attachment points for power and accessories, and self-standing feet, a carry handle, and an optional dual battery bracket round out the physical design. A ventilation fan handles thermal management.
Connectivity is comprehensive for a monitor this size. The OLED 16 carries four 12G-SDI in and out, one HDMI 2.0 in and out, a 4-pin XLR power input, one USB 2.0 (5V / 2.4A), one USB (5V / 1.5A), one USB-C (5V / 1.5A), an RP-SMA WiFi antenna connector, a 3.5mm headphone output, and one RJ45 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet port, with a separate RJ45 for GPI. There are also two 2-pin locking power outputs to feed external devices such as Teradek wireless transmitters, which is a thoughtful touch for keeping a cart’s cabling tidy.

The most visible new feature is tactile. A joystick and wheel, function and menu buttons, and four machined dials along the lower front of the monitor give users direct, customizable control over PageOS. SmallHD says customers repeatedly asked it to combine OLED’s contrast and color accuracy with hardware dials, set-ready durability, and integrated WiFi in the 16-inch size, and the dials are the company’s answer, mapping to whichever tools an operator uses most.
Underneath sits PageOS 6, SmallHD’s page-based monitoring environment with the full suite of professional tools: Waveform, Vectorscope, EL Zone, Multiview, False Color, and LUT workflows. This generation adds a more granular color pipe for configuring each video input independently, downstream LUTs that send graded looks to other displays on set without extra hardware, a GPI tally border, and an upgraded Custom Exposure Assist with finer adjustments. Fleet Control handles multiple SmallHD monitors from a single app over Ethernet, WiFi, or Bluetooth, with Android and iOS support, so settings and LUTs can be matched across a rig wirelessly. The EL Zone system, developed by Ed Lachman, ASC, replaces IRE values with a stop-based scale that works like a virtual spot meter.

For color-critical work, SmallHD highlights integrated Pomfort Livegrade as a plug-in, which lets DITs and colorists turn the reference monitor into a dual-purpose grading tool. The OLED 16 also integrates directly with Portrait Displays’ Calman for calibration, a workflow SmallHD has built into its monitors to maintain color accuracy across both production and post. That combination, a true 10-bit OLED panel with native Calman calibration and Livegrade integration, is what justifies the OLED 16’s pitch as a reference-grade display rather than just an on-set viewing monitor.
