PINK Says Her Tonys 2026 Opening Number Will Have Stunts

There’s one reason to have P!NK host the Tonys: for the stunts. Everybody’s favorite high-flying pop star knows it. “Everyone always expects me to fly, so I literally walk into every building like, ‘Where can I hang from? What’s strong enough?’” she told Variety. “They were like, ‘Calm down, it’s Radio City.’ So we’ll see — but I’m doing some things!” Those exciting things include “many, many, many costume changes, as many as I can possibly do.” And also some shenanigans. “There will be stunts — and not just for me,” she confirmed. “I’m hoping to cajole another performer into taking a chance with a stunt, so we’ll see!”

Given that P!NK has never performed on Broadway, it’s no surprise that she was hired in a mercenary manner. She claimed the producers told her they wanted her “‘because we want more viewership.’” P!NK liked that. “I was like, ‘Great!,’” she said. “‘I have a purpose! I’m your guy!’” She’s now working with a smart group of Broadway collaborators to capture the right tone. Amber Ruffin, who wrote the book to the Some Like It Hot musical, is writing for her, and her “seven and a half minute” opening number will be written by Dear Evan Hansen composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. “It’s gonna be raucous and wild and ridiculous,” she explained. “It’s sort of a throwback, but not really. There’s gonna be like 170 people onstage with me, and I get to be ridiculous and make fun of myself right away, which was my one rule.” It sounds like P!NK is ready to go … bigger.
