CASPER, Wyo. — The documentary film “Outriding the Devil,” a large portion of which was filmed in the Cowboy State, is scheduled for its Wyoming red carpet premiere on June 13 in Casper, tying into the College National Finals Rodeo also being hosted in the Oil City.

The event, held on the eve of the CNFR, is free and open to the public through a partnership between Visit Casper and the Wyoming Foundation for Cancer Care.

The premiere is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the at the Studio City Mesa + ARQ, 3150 Talon Drive. Doors opening at 6:30 p.m.. Following the screening, director Raen LeVell will lead a question-and-answer session. While there is no cost for admission, tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis theater’s box office.

The docudrama chronicles the life of Angela Ganter, a world-champion barrel racer and Texas Rodeo Hall of Famer. The film focuses on Ganter’s decade-long battle with Stage 4 breast cancer and her eventual return to professional competition at Cheyenne Frontier Days. The title of the movie is a reference to the “red devil” chemotherapy treatments Ganter underwent during her recovery.

Narrated by “Yellowstone” actor Forrie J. Smith, the film features a cast of prominent figures from the rodeo and entertainment industries.

Actor Mo Brings Plenty plays a significant role in the production, which also includes 10-time PRCA World Champion Stetson Wright, legendary announcer Bob Tallman, and world-champion athletes Shad Mayfield and Ky Hamilton.

The production of the film has strong ties to the state, with approximately 60% of the film shot in Wyoming, primarily at Cheyenne Frontier Days. Director Raen LeVell and executive producer Karen True are both Wyoming residents. And the film also features contributions from former Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead, bullfighter Dusty Tuckness and country music artists Ned LeDoux and Chancey Williams.

Elissa Campbell, executive director of the Wyoming Foundation for Cancer Care, said in a statement that the organization is honored to bring the story to the state, noting that the film reflects the “strength, courage and determination” found in Wyoming families. Wayne Stewart, director of marketing for Visit Casper, added that the premiere offers an additional attraction for visitors and residents during one of the county’s most active weeks.
