Four visiting days have been announced for the public as works continue at the site

An update has been shared regarding the Lancaster Bomber sculpture that was unveiled last year as works continue at the site.
The statue, ‘On Freedom Wings’, went up in Norton Disney close to the A46 in September 2025, and for the past few months the Bomber Command Gateway Trust has been working to finish the rest of the site.
Whilst an official opening ceremony and weekend of events have recently taken place, the site still remains closed to the public except on specific days due to more work being needed.
The trust has now applied to North Kesteven District Council requesting planning permission for a permanent parking area.
An update from the trust on its Facebook page said: “Due to the popularity of “On Freedom’s Wings” it has been necessary for us to apply for planning permission for a permanent parking area to allow more opening opportunities for visitors.

“The planning application is with North Kesteven District Council and we are hoping that this will be considered over the next few months but these things take time and it is out of our hands.”
The trust hopes to eventually open the site three or four days a week from 10am to 3pm, but the details will be confirmed once planning permission is decided.
In the meantime, the trust has announced a further four opening days for the site, which is when the public can come and see the sculpture.
The update adds: “Unfortunately we are unable to to open specially for individuals wishing to visit outside of the designated days and we politely ask you to show respect for the landowners and the working farmland by not to try gain access to the site when it is closed.”
The upcoming open dates include Sunday, June 14, Sunday, June 21, Sunday, July 12 and Sunday, July 19.
