A large vegetation fire near Waitaki Boys’ High School has been contained.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said they responded to a call just before 9am.

One structure was under threat from the blaze, the spokesperson said.

A parent told the Otago Daily Times that some students were evacuated from the school.
Four fire trucks were on the scene with all firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and another four were deployed.

The fire was burning in approximately 200m of trees along the end of the school’s Don Field.
Waitaki Boys’ High School posted a statement to Facebook thanking emergency services for their work containing the fire.
