The Infinix GT 50 Pro has all the makings of a premium gaming phone – from the RGB lights on the back panel through the partially see-through panel that gives a peek at the cooling system to the programmable shoulder triggers on the frame.
One aspect where the Infinix GT 50 Pro is just average is its build materials. There is a flat Gorilla Glass 7i on top of the screen, a flat plastic panel at the back, and a flat plastic frame across the whole thing. The device is IP64-rated for dust and splash resistance.
The GT 50 Pro is available in three colors – Black Abyss, Red Blaze (ours), Silver Glacier. All three options feature the underlying carbon-like texture.
We also appreciate the rather minimalistic camera housing design. Knowing how this part can be oversized and overused for marketing purposes, especially in emerging makers, Infinix really gets on our good side with this one.
And now, let’s take a closer look at the Infinix GT 50 Pro, as there is a lot to check out.
Let’s start with the most trivial part – the front. It is home to the 6.7-inch AMOLED screen that relies on a rather premium panel with 440ppi density, 144Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color depth. It has thin and even bezels across all sides.
There is a reasonably-sized punch hole for the 13MP selfie camera.
Above the screen is an almost invisible earpiece, which, together with a top-facing sound outlet, doubles as a stereo speaker.
The GT 50 Pro also features an optical fingerprint scanner – as fast and reliable as those go these days.
The back of the GT 50 Pro is thoroughly interesting. First, there is a two-step camera housing that packs the 50MP primary and the 8MP ultrawide cameras, each surrounded by a square-ish ring. Next to them is the dual-LED flash.
The entire back panel is made of transparent plastic, with glossy finish, of course. We are not sure if the underlying carbon-like piece is made of metal, or if it’s just paint on top of plastic, but either way – it is incredibly cool. What’s even cooler is the honeycomb texture on the surrounding black bezel!
There are four RGB lights across the X on the back called Mechanical Light Waves. They flash on flip, shake, and for music, AI, games. You can configure the flashing patterns and colors from their respective settings.
At the bottom is the alien spaceship-shaped transparent part with visualized 3D pipelines with accents which are color-matched with the back of the phone. You can see the micro flow that channels through these pipes – the liquid cooling is supposed to enhance the already impressive 7700mm2 vapor chamber cooling system with graphite sheet.
The cooling pipes are not illuminated, as opposed to what the press photos, and even our live ones, may look like.
The back is quite a smudge magnet, but because the entire surface is pretty busy, those are hardly visible.
By the way, if you opt for the bundled magnetic case, the GT 50 Pro back was designed in a way that you will not lose sight of the RGB lights and the liquid cooling.
The sides of the GT 50 Pro are typical for the most part. There is nothing on the left one.
The top has one of the microphones, the IR blaster, and the Dolby Atmos logo next to the outlet for the top speaker.
The other, more powerful speaker is at the bottom, together with the USB-C port, the dual-SIM tray, and the primary microphone.
The right side is quite overcrowded – it has the volume and power/lock keys, and two symmetrically placed shoulder triggers.
The triggers are not pressable buttons. Don’t you worry, though; they are touch and pressure sensitive, and their haptics do a fine job of making you believe they are the real deal. The triggers have 10 levels of adjustable pressure sensitivity and 8 mapping points. You can fully customize them from the settings.
The Infinix GT 50 Pro measures 162.4 x 77.2 x 8.2 mm and weighs 198 grams. This is in line with most 6.8-inch phones out there – not oversized and overweight, but not an Air or Edge phone either.
The matte frame and the glossy back of the GT 50 Pro make for an average grip – it’s secure enough to play and take pictures. The glossy MagCharge case makes the phone more slippery, so if you don’t need the cooler, we’d advise against using it.
The Infinix GT 50 Pro is a well-designed phone with cool looks without those being over the top. It appears to be of a sturdy build and balanced weight. Overall, we had no problem handling it, just don’t expect it to feel as premium as it looks – there are no metal parts across the phone so it feels light and plastic.
