The Scots Pine tree at Prospect Place, featured in the Hythe and Dibden Parish Council’s logo, was cut down after being deemed in “permanent decline” in March.
The tree was felled on Thursday, May 14, and in an effort to preserve the tree’s history, a sculpture was carved from its stump.
In an announcement posted to their Facebook, the council thanked sculptor Ella Fielding for crafting the piece in challenging weather conditions on Remembrance Day.
The sculpture was initially planned to be unveiled on Heritage Day, June 27.
However, due to the condition of the tree, it was advised to leave the newly sculptured remembrance poppy uncovered, to be exposed to the natural elements as soon as possible.
A spokesperson from Hythe and Dibden Parish Council said: “There are still additions to be added by the Waterside Woodcarvers before the 27th June, Heritage Day event.
“Please keep an eye out for any more plans as we would like to get as many people down, to see the finished sculpture, as possible.”
