KUCHING (June 9): Twelve-year-old Sarawakian vocalist Taylor Louise will be Malaysia’s sole representative at the New York International Golden Classical Music Awards in July.
She will make her debut performance at the prestigious Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall on July 11, said State Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
“The Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie hall is well known for its rich history and outstanding acoustics, having hosted legendary musicians since its opening in 1891,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook following a courtesy call on him by Taylor and her mother Jacqueline Chang here.
Taylor’s participation is made possible through the support of the ministry, reflecting the state’s commitment to nurturing young talent and developing ‘Anak Sarawak Global’ ambassadors who showcase Sarawak’s excellence, creativity and achievements on the world stage.
She has earned international recognition through several music competitions, including the Exceptional Young Talent Award in Paris, France, in December 2025.
The prestigious New York International Golden Classical Music Awards will gather outstanding young musicians and performers from the United States, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Brazil, India, China, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Israel, France, Russia, Taiwan, Croatia, Türkiye, the Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, Indonesia and Australia.
As the only Malaysian representative, Taylor will proudly carry both the Sarawak and Malaysian flags on the international stage, highlighting Sarawak’s growing presence in the global arts community and the rising potential of its young talent.
Her appearance at Weill Recital Hall marks a significant milestone in her musical journey and places her among the youngest Sarawakian vocalists to perform at the world-renowned venue.
Taylor expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Sarawak government, particularly the ministry, for its support in making her participation possible.
She also thanked the state leadership, including Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, for their encouragement and messages of support, which she said have further motivated her ahead of the international stage.
Taylor also acknowledged the unwavering support of her parents, her vocal coach Sabrina Tnay, members of the media, and all those who have supported her musical journey.
“As a young singer from Sarawak, it is a great honour to represent both Sarawak and Malaysia on one of the world’s most prestigious stages. I am deeply grateful to the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and everyone who has supported me on this journey.
“I will continue to work hard and give my very best,” she said.
Taylor is scheduled to depart for New York on July 6 for rehearsals, the awards ceremony and her Carnegie Hall debut performance.
She hopes her journey will inspire more young Malaysians to dream boldly, work hard and pursue excellence while proudly carrying the spirit of ‘Anak Sarawak Global’ to the world.
