Everybody in the house was accounted for, and crews worked to extinguish the fire as well as carrying out a “defensive attack” to stop the blaze spreading to other houses close by.
A crew remained at the scene this morning to keep an eye on hotspots.
West Auckland crews were also called to a school in Henderson around 2am, when smoke was registered in the school’s tech block.
Signs on the outside of the building warned chemicals were present but the fire was a smouldering filing cabinet, Lyford said.
A fire investigator has been requested.
