Health NZ is planning to cut some clinical roles from its upper central North Island Region.
RNZ understands between 15 and 20 roles will go from the region which comprises Waikato, Tai Rāwhiti, Taranaki and Bay of Plenty.
The cuts are part of plan to change the way the region is structured.
Dozens of roles are affected but most people will be redeployed to different jobs.
There are currently about 30 unfilled positions in the region.
That means few, if any, people are likely to lose their jobs in the restructure.
But it does mean, overall, the number of medical roles will be down on what had previously been considered necessary.
