According to a new report, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will be getting a massive battery upgrade that will result in a power pack roughly twice the size of a normal Wear OS watch.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra already has a huge battery at 590 mAh, easily giving the smartwatch over a full day of battery life for most users. But Samsung is apparently looking to significantly increase that with the new model.
SamMobile says that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will pack a battery with a rated capacity of 784 mAh, likely to be marketed closer to 800 mAh. Just based on the rated capacity alone, that’s an increase of well over 30%.
That figure is absolutely massive in the Wear OS world, too. By comparison, the same report claims that the 40mm Galaxy Watch 9, Samsung’s smallest upcoming smartwatch, will have a battery with a rated capacity of 382 mAh. The Pixel Watch 4 (41mm) has a 325 mAh battery, while Pixel Watch 4 (45mm) has a 455 mAh battery. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will effectively be doubling the capacity of most other Wear OS smartwatches.

While it remains to be seen how long this new battery will last, endurance is very likely to be a major selling point. It’s also nice to see that, after two years on the same platform, the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s first actual sequel is looking to be a pretty big upgrade. The Snapdragon Wear Elite chip from Qualcomm is expected to power Samsung’s new smartwatches.
Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is rumored to launch in July alongside Galaxy Z Fold 8.
