“Police are providing the necessary support to the man’s family, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” a police spokesperson said.
The death will be referred to the coroner.
Police thanked all the search and rescue staff, along with Coastguard Mackenzie Lakes volunteers, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and a helicopter crew, who assisted in the search last night and today.
