The shed fire could be seen from Taradale High School grounds.

Firefighters are dampening hotspots at a Napier fire which severely damaged a garage.

The fire sent a plume of black smoke above Taradale on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the King St fire, near the back fence of Taradale High School grounds, at 1.29pm.

A Fire
and Emergency NZ spokesman said four fire trucks were on the scene at 1.45pm.

Police were at the scene, and cordons had been put in place by 2.05pm at King St and Meeanne Rd, with Fire and Emergency NZ taking control of the cordons at 2.10pm.
