Health tech: Assembling a tech-driven ecosystem
Across Asia Pacific, digital health venture funding reached US$1.2 billion in the second quarter of 2025, with AI-powered ventures capturing approximately 63% of capital. Singapore sits at the centre of this acceleration: its national health technology agency, Synapxe, has forged partnerships with technology firms. In 2023, Synapxe and Amazon Web Services (AWS) set up the HealthX Co-Innovation Lab, which aims to enable collaboration on health tech innovation between public healthcare institutions and industry partners with a lower cost of experimentation and faster prototyping.
Singapore’s supportive environment suggests promise and opportunity for health tech founders and their startups worldwide. Set to debut in July 2026, Smart Health Asia is expected to feature 140 speakers and more than 200 exhibiting companies. It aims to initiate innovation and collaboration among the region’s most influential health systems and technologies, with Singapore as a staging point.
“Singapore is uniquely placed to support health tech developments,” said Chua. “Its strong research ecosystem, healthcare infrastructure, legal framework, intellectual property protections and international connectivity provide a neutral and trusted environment for companies and investors to build partnerships and scale across the region.”
Another major event on the Singapore calendar is HealthTechX Asia, which brings together stakeholders from across the health tech ecosystem, including ministries of health, hospital systems, startups, payers and investors. Featuring more than 70 speakers and 50 exhibitors with Synapxe as community partner, the event’s inaugural 2025 edition provided insights on AI-enabled diagnostics, cybersecurity, digital transformation and smart hospital design.
Fostering synergy in biopharma innovation
Supported by a robust intellectual property (IP) regime and regulatory framework, Singapore’s biomedical sciences sector is riding a wave of significant momentum, anchored by recent high-value manufacturing commitments from global pharmaceutical leaders. Hence, the growth of Singapore’s biopharmaceutical manufacturing output is expected to continue, having doubled over the past two decades to reach S$13.9 billion in 2023.
Against this backdrop, Singapore has become a popular staging point for the region’s largest biopharma events. The Asia Bio Partnering Forum brought together more than 650 biotech and pharma leaders from 30 countries and facilitated more than 2,500 one-to-one meetings in its third edition in 2025. That same year, the inaugural RNA Leaders APAC conference brought together communities working on next-generation RNA therapeutics as the region emerges as a critical node in nucleic acid medicine.
