Actress Eve Hewson is the second child of U2 frontman Bono and activist Ali Hewson.
The rocker and his high school sweetheart have been married for over 40 years.
In 2024, the Disclosure Day actress joked that Bono is “a stage dad” due to his encouragement of her career.
You might see a familiar face in Disclosure Day—if you’re caught up on U2 frontman Bono’s family tree, that is. Actress Eve Hewson, who plays Jane Blankenship in the Spielberg sci-fi film, is the daughter of Bono and activist Ali Hewson.
Fans of the couple have long noted that Eve is the spitting image of her mother. Ali met her future husband, whose real name is Paul Hewson at school when she was 12 years old. The Dublin natives tied the knot in 1982, and have since welcomed four children: daughters Jordan and Eve and sons Elijah and John.
Eve’s appearance in Disclosure Day marks the second Spielberg outing for the 34-year-old actress, who previously worked with the acclaimed director in 2015’s Bridge of Spies. She revealed in a recent The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon interview that Spielberg kept up with her career over the last decade. “He was like, ‘I’ve been watching you ever since we worked together and I’m so proud of you,’” she said of their initial Zoom discussion about Disclosure Day.

Her interim projects between Spielberg outings included stints on shows Bad Sisters, The Perfect Couple, Behind Her Eyes, and The Luminaries. She also played Daphne in 2025 dramedy Jay Kelly, working alongside George Clooney.

After first crossing paths in secondary school, Eve’s parents, Ali and Bono, became high school sweethearts. “I still pinch myself that that week in 1976, the week I’d joined the band that was to become U2, was also the week that I formally asked Alison Steward to go out with me,” Bono wrote in 2022 memoir Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, per American Songwriter.
Ali and the “Beautiful Day” singer dated for several more years before marrying in 1982. His band was already making a name for itself by then, but it wasn’t until around 1985 when U2’s memorable Live Aid concert performance propelled the act to new heights of global stardom.
Despite the tumult of fame, Bono has credited his wife of over four decades with helping to keep him grounded—and vice versa. “Any time either of us got lost, the other would…be there to get the other one home,” he said in a 2022 New Yorker Festival interview, per People.
Ali is an activist, businesswoman, and the muse for several of her husband’s songs.

Eve’s mother, Ali, is best known for her continued activism. She graduated from the University College Dublin in 1989, earning degrees in sociology, social science, and politics, per Today. In 1993, she produced and narrated a documentary about the lasting effects of the Chernobyl disaster, Black Wind, White Land. She also campaigned against the British nuclear facility Sellafield, launching what The Guardian described in 2002 as “the largest environmental protest ever mounted by one nation [Ireland] against its neighbour.”
In 2005, Ali and her husband launched an ethical fashion line, EDUN, following up with ethical beauty venture Nude Skincare in 2007.
Outside of her business ventures, she’s also served as the muse for many U2 songs. Notably, “Sweetest Thing” was written as a gift for Ali after Bono forgot her birthday while recording the album The Joshua Tree. Per Rolling Stone, Ali agreed to appear in the music video, but only if all of the song’s proceeds went to the Chernobyl Children’s Project.

Ali and Bono celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2022. At the New Yorker Festival that year, the rocker told journalist David Remnick the secret to their longevity. “It is a grand madness about us,” he said, per People. “And there’s something about knowing that you’re going against the odds. But I would say if you ask me seriously, friendship can outpace romantic love, sometimes. And friendship is what myself and Ali have. When you have romantic love and friendship, that’s really something special.”
Ali gave her perspective in a December 2022 joint interview with her husband on CBS Evening News. “I think that’s really important in every relationship, is that we all respect each other, and also not be possessive. It’s really important to give each other space.”
“And sometimes I do feel that maybe…we both put each other a bit on a pedestal, and sometimes under a pedestal,” she continued, “But it’s just that keeping the balance and always holding on to the truth of each other.”
Many of their children have gone into music or acting.

Eve is the second of four children. Her older sister, Jordan, worked in tech before venturing into music in April 2026 under the stage name Jordan Joy. The girls have two younger brothers.
Elijah, born in 1999, followed in their father’s footsteps as a musician, forming a band with his schoolmates in 2012. The Irish rock group, dubbed Inhaler, released their debut album in 2021 and have since dropped two more records.

Eve’s parents have been supportive of her acting career—to the point that Eve jokes about her dad’s high level of enthusiasm. “He’s such a stage dad,” she said in a September 2024 appearance on Today. “I’ve called him this before, and he loves it, but he’s like the male Kris Jenner. He’s all about it, just a huge, huge fan.”
“He’s always like, ‘So this is what you gotta do: You gotta call up this person, you gotta do this,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, calm down,'” she added.

As for mom Ali’s reaction to Eve taking on Hollywood, she told The Guardian in 2013 that she had the reservations any parent would. “But I’m sure if you’d asked Bono’s parents what they thought about his career choice back in the day, they would have said the same thing,” she added, noting, “[Eve] has a certain charisma and she is passionate. And, you know, I’ve seen that before.”
