SH16 rubbish truck blaze cleared but congestion lingers westbound

The truck fire caused significant delays before the Rosebank Rd offramp.

Traffic remains heavily congested on Auckland’s State Highway 16 after a rubbish truck fire blocked two westbound lanes ahead of the afternoon rush hour.

The heavy vehicle could be seen on traffic cameras, billowing smoke just before the Rosebank Rd offramp, heading towards Te Atatū just before 2.30pm.

The scene
has been cleared, but traffic congestion has built up along the northwestern motorway and surrounding suburban roads.

Earlier, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said one truck attended the scene, with another two pumps assisting to put out the flames.
