The man wasn’t believed to have any family in New Zealand.
“Police have made contact with the relevant consulate in order for next of kin to be notified overseas,” Worth said.

“The death has been referred to the Coroner.”
The death isn’t related to that of a man whose body was retrieved from the same high-country lake last Friday, police confirmed.
Emergency services were called on the evening of Thursday, June 11, with reports a man had entered the water and failed to surface.
Police search and rescue staff, along with Coastguard Mackenzie Lakes volunteers, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and a helicopter searched through the night but were unable to locate him.
A body matching the description of the man was eventually found on Friday afternoon by the Police Dive Squad.
