Technology publication 9to5Google published a piece on June 17 about the release of Android 17. Alongside the launch of the new operating system version, Google has significantly overhauled the Android Switch tool, greatly expanding its capabilities for users transitioning from iPhone to an Android-powered smartphone.
It is worth noting that Android Switch is Google’s proprietary data migration tool. It allows device owners to transfer contacts, photos, app data, and other information from both iPhones and older Android devices to a new device.
As part of the update, the list of transferable data categories has been substantially expanded. Now, when switching from an iPhone to an Android smartphone, users will be able to take with them not only the familiar contacts and photos, but also a much broader range of personal information.
Particular attention deserves the ability to perform authorized in-app data transfers. Developers can now grant users the right to transfer personal information between platforms, including game progress and saved settings. This innovation noticeably simplifies the transition from one platform to another and reduces the risk of losing important data. In addition, the list of supported transferable data now includes passwords, passkeys, Wi-Fi credentials, alarms, and accessibility settings.
