Hollywood star Jason Momoa has described his role as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in the new Supergirl film as “surreal”, while revealing his profound affection for the character.
The 46-year-old American actor, known for his previous superhero turn in Aquaman, joins forces with Milly Alcock’s reluctant anti-hero Supergirl in the sci-fi action movie, fighting for vengeance and justice.
Momoa has long spoken of playing Lobo as a childhood dream, and in an interview with the Press Association, he reflected on the “crazy” reality of stepping into the role.
He recounted his first scene, stating: “I think the first scene was when I got on the bike and we ride in, and that’s your introductory scene – riding in on the on the space hog, fireballs going off, chaos, and you’re throwing the gut hook. It was… I mean, it’s surreal.
“When you put the whole outfit on, like everyone’s looking at me and you just kind of… it’s crazy, because you’re like ‘Lobo is standing in front of me’. It’s full-on.”

Explaining his enthusiasm for the part, Momoa added: “I just think the rebels and the anti-heroes are just fun to me. I like Superman, I like the worlds and stuff like that, but that’s not someone I would play. I love playing a character like this, he’s just a menace. It’s just fun to do those kinds of roles.”
He expressed hope that fans would “fall in love” with the latest Supergirl franchise and his desire to “make more” films.
Momoa, looking sharp in an all-black suit, waistcoat, and t-shirt, attended a fan event at Cineworld Leicester Square in London alongside co-star Alcock, who captivated the crowd in a chic white dress.
Alcock, an Australian actress also known for House Of The Dragon, echoed his excitement, highlighting the “unconventional” nature of her Supergirl as the role’s primary appeal.
She told the Press Association: “I really just wanted to bring humility, heart, grit, and sincerity.”
Addressing criticism she has faced for playing a female superhero, Alcock remarked: “I think that sometimes people have made up their minds, but I hope that I can change their minds and surprise them.
“Ultimately, at the end of the day, I love to do what I do – even if nobody saw it. For me, it’s just a learning lesson and a stepping stone, and a natural part of life is that people aren’t going to like you.”
Supergirl is set to be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 25 June.
