Man arrested after standoff in Shelbyville; road reopened
UPDATE:
SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WICS/WRSP)— One man has been arrested in a standoff that took place for nearly seven hours on Copeland Road in Shelbyville.
The Shelby County Sheriff told us that a call came in at 8:45 a.m. today about an individual, later identified as Travis Hennings, 31, who was having a mental health crisis, pointing a weapon at another person in the house he lives in.
When the Sheriff’s department got to the scene, Hennings’s father was about to get out of the home. He sustained a cut on his head from a fight that took lace within the home.
Police attempted to get Hennings out of the home, but he refused. This led to a standoff.
At 3:30 p.m., the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department was able to get Hennings out of the home with the help of the Shelbyville Police, the Illinois State Police Tactical Response Team, and ISP Negotiators.
Hennings was arrested and taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
