Within the new SR Series, Paul Hales demonstrated a new concept that he calls a “Rock Concert-in-a-Box” solution. Since its foundation, Theory has proven a unique capability to re-examine traditional approaches in every application segment addressed by their unique, high-performance loudspeakers. The Orange County-based (Lake Forest), CA company was founded in 2018 as Theory Audio Design and focused on products for home theater and residential installation with an obsession for performance and design. Theory Professional made its official debut into the commercial audio market in 2023 and validated Paul Hales’ vision to build unique “high-output, high-fidelity” products also for that highly competitive application segment.
Paul Hales is the founder, owner, and CEO of both Theory Audio Design and Theory Professional, and he is also the mastermind behind all of the brand’s loudspeakers. His high-performance designs are optimized in every aspect, from enclosures and transducers to the amplifier and signal processing chain, which all work synergistically. For that reason, all Theory systems are designed to work with its own amplified loudspeaker controllers and are specified as a complete system.
With Theory Audio Design, Paul Hales focused on the premium segment of the residential audio market. For Theory Professional, he focused his attention on accuracy, compact form factors, and hi-fidelity quality, whatever the form factor, including for its latest generation of ceiling/pendant speakers. In common between different series, all Theory designs use “pro” oriented drivers, with compression drivers for the high-frequencies, even in the smallest models, and custom-treated carbon fiber low-frequency diaphragms, the combination of which results in highly dynamic and clean reproduction.
Early in 2026, at ISE 2026, Theory Professional introduced its SR Series, a new line of passive and powered loudspeakers specifically designed for sound reinforcement applications. These new built-to-order loudspeakers combine high maximum output level with refined acoustic performance in relatively compact enclosures. Designed including ergonomic handles, multiple fly points, industry-standard mount points, and pole cups, the eight Theory SR Series multi-purpose loudspeakers and manifold subwoofers are the starting point for a significant expansion of the company’s portfolio.
Among the products in that new SR Series, Paul Hales intends to shake things up with a unique full-range loudspeaker. The Theory Professional “Extreme Output” SR-221.3 stands out for being an ultra-high-output, full-range sound reinforcement loudspeaker built for professional live sound coverage from a single box. The subwoofer bottom section of the vertical cabinet features dual 21” woofers, with four 10” high-output carbon fiber midrange drivers powering a top section, topped by a 5” wide-band ring radiator compression driver coupled to a unique an axiperiodic horn design and lensguide for controlled coverage: ultra-wide 170° horizontally, with 60° vertical dispersion.
According to Theory, one to two SR-221.3 loudspeakers can easily fill medium-sized venues with very high SPL and wide coverage, in place of a conventional line array system. This is the reason why the company refers to the new concept as a “rock concert-in-a-box”. The SR-221.3 is expected to be in production from Q4 2026.
