Chief Human Rights Commissioner Dr Stephen Rainbow is being investigated over concerns regarding his conduct.

An investigation into Chief Human Rights Commissioner Dr Stephen Rainbow is being launched over concerns raised regarding his conduct, according to Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith.

In a statement, Goldsmith confirmed the investigation was taking place but did not elaborate on the concerns regarding Rainbow’s conduct.

“Concerns about the
Chief Commissioner have been raised directly with me as the minister responsible for the Human Rights Commission,” he said.

“Following advice from the Ministry of Justice, Kristy McDonald KC has been appointed to carry out an investigation into alleged conduct concerns and report back to me.

“In accordance with the principles of fair process and natural justice for the parties involved, it would be inappropriate for me to comment any further.”
