June is known to be peak wedding season, but this year it is royal wedding season. Two weeks after the wedding of Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling, another member of the Windsor family has tied the knot. Lady Marina Windsor, a granddaughter of the Duke of Kent, married Nico Macauley on Friday in North Yorkshire, England, in a ceremony attended by several members of the extended royal family.
The bride, 33, wore a custom gown by Swiss-Austrian designer Larissa Von Planta. As noted by Tatler, for her something borrowed and something blue, she wore her mother’s sapphire brooch as a necklace. Her most sentimental accessories, however, were drawn from her late grandmother’s collection: the Duchess of Kent’s diamond and pearl flower earrings and the Kent Pearl and Diamond Fringe Tiara, the same headpiece the Duchess wore on her own wedding day in 1961.

The tiara has a long history in the family. According to Hello, its origins trace back to Queen Mary, wife of King George V, who commissioned the diamond crochet bandeau base from Garrard. It was passed down to her daughter-in-law Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, who later gifted it to her own daughter-in-law, Katharine Worsley, as a wedding present when she married Prince Edward, Duke of Kent in 1961.
In the 1970s, the Duchess of Kent refashioned the sparkler into a taller, more striking fringe silhouette. She wore the updated version regularly at the State Opening of Parliament and at major royal occasions. The tiara was also loaned to her daughter Lady Helen for her 1992 wedding to Timothy Taylor, and to the Countess of St. Andrews for her 1988 wedding to George Windsor, Lady Marina’s father.

Lady Helen was among the guests on Saturday, as was the Duke of Kent. Several Windsor cousins were also present, including Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Lady Gabriella Windsor, and Flora Vesterberg.

Lady Marina is the daughter of George Windsor, Earl of St. Andrews, and historian Dr. Sylvana Tomaselli. She was removed from the line of succession in 2008 after converting to Catholicism, having previously held 25th place at the time. Her younger sister, Lady Amelia, remains in the line of succession. The couple announced their engagement on June 8, 2025, a date that held particular meaning: it was the wedding anniversary of her grandparents. The Duchess of Kent died in September 2025. Lady Marina attended the funeral with her parents and siblings at Westminster Cathedral.
