Marvel Studios is about to return to its biggest sub-franchise, the Avengers, in theaters at the end of this year with the release of Avengers: Doomsday. This movie will be the first part of the culmination of everything that came before it in the Infinity Saga and Multiverse Saga, bringing together MCU regulars and veteran Marvel stars from films made outside of Marvel Studios’ purview. It will also bring back directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who have already delivered four of the biggest and most celebrated movies in MCU history, including the two most recent Avengers movies.
Their most recent movie, Avengers: Endgame, is also set to be re-released in theaters this September, which was announced during Disney’s panel at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will give viewers a chance to revisit the most successful comic book movie in history, which showed the Avengers who survived Thanos’ snap plotting out the Time Heist to retrieve the Infinity Stones and bring those they lost back to life. With about three months until this re-release comes to theaters, new information teases more of what to expect from the hit blockbuster.
Reported by Deadline, Disney will bring Avengers: Doomsday back to theaters on Sept. 25 under the title of Avengers: Endgame Encore. Disney is currently in the process of approving applications for theaters to be certified to show the movie, which will be presented in Disney’s new Infinity Vision format, which is said to be an answer to IMAX screens. As mentioned during Disney’s CinemaCon presentation, the movie will be re-released with a custom introduction sequence, additional new footage filmed exclusively for the re-release, and a special end tag exclusive to Infinity Vision and IMAX releases.
While there is still no information on what new footage will be shown in Avengers: Endgame Encore, it is expected to heavily tie into what will be shown three months later in Avengers: Doomsday. This will be a way to connect the fourth and fifth Avengers movies more concretely than they currently are, likely introducing more multiversal elements into Endgame beyond just the time heist. Potentially, this could show a look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom looking into the Time Heist from afar and noticing the effects of it and how it could impact the multiverse. Specifically, the ending will likely be important to watch, as Doomsday seems to pick up with Steve Rogers after his time jump back to the past to be with Peggy Carter and start a family.
This will only help build hype even further for Doomsday, which is already expected to be the biggest movie released this year, and potentially the biggest movie of the decade. This all comes as viewers continue to wait for a first full trailer after the four initial teases attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash last year.
Avengers: Endgame Encore comes to select theaters on Sept. 25, 2026, and Avengers: Doomsday will debut worldwide on Dec. 18, 2026.
