Nigerian telecom operators back new CBN rule to host payments data locally

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has endorsed the Central Bank of Nigeria’s latest directive that all banks and fintech companies must host their payment transaction data locally starting 1 January 2027, NAN reported. The mandate is part of a broader regulatory effort to strengthen oversight of the country’s rapidly growing digital payments market.
