“We are working on access to switching sites to enable us to back feed customers that can be,” she said.
Once staff had access to a switching site, they would be able to bring power back for some customers, leaving a small number off for the rest of the repair, she said.
“…We do not have an estimated time of full relivening, but replacing poles that have been hit generally takes at least six hours.”
The website showed the outage started at 11.40am.
Located a 30-minute drive from Whangārei, the outage appeared to be affecting areas just past the coastal settlement of Ngunguru.
Police said inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing.
