The driver of the Ford, Samantha Keen, spoke in court about how the crash left her injured and temporarily unable to look after her children. The woman, whose husband and father of the three children had died of cancer a year earlier, also spoke about how the event still affects the family, three years on.
Keen suffered a broken ankle, cuts to her face and head, and damage to her right hip. The three children suffered cuts and bruises to their faces, heads, arms and legs.
“They thought they were going to lose their only living parent,” she said in her victim impact statement. “We had to cancel our holiday, losing our deposits. I was too injured to look after the children.”
Following the crash, the children required counselling for post-traumatic stress disorder.
Zoe Graham, who is married to Rory Graham, known as Rag‘n’Bone Man, told the court that trauma from her past with an abusive ex made her feel anxious about being late for the school run.

She broke down in tears as she told the judge that domestic abuse from an ex-partner who had deliberately made her late to collect her children had left her with severe anxiety about being late.
She also said her children suffered from anxiety.
“I was a little bit late to pick up my boys, and they suffer from anxiety. I indicated and I hit her. I’ve never hurt anyone in my life and never would. I feel so sorry because my children went through anxiety as well,” she told the court.
Judge David Rennie handed a suspended sentence, acknowledging the events that led to the crash had been “wholly out of character”.
“All this was avoidable if you had driven in the way you were supposed to. I’m going to put you out of your misery – you’re not going to prison today,” he told Graham.
“This is a horrendous case where two families have been left traumatised by events,” the judge added.
