Strong G3-Class magnetic storm expected to hit Earth on Jul 2
AKIPRESS.COM – A strong G3-class magnetic storm is projected to impact Earth on the evening of July 2, following an X-class solar flare that erupted near midnight on July 1, according to the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
While the flare itself was of moderate intensity for an X-class event, its position directly along the Sun-Earth line means the planet will experience a noticeable impact. Scientists noted that while maximum-level radiation storms or G4-class events are highly unlikely, a strong G3 category storm appears inevitable.
The solar plasma ejection is expected to trigger the most powerful geomagnetic storm observed since March 2026. This activity follows two M-class solar flares recorded on June 30.
According to the Institute of Applied Geophysics, the last time energy emissions of a similar class were recorded on June 21.
