Two people were taken to hospital on Thursday morning after a two-car crash near Dannevirke.

A police spokesperson said emergency services were called to the crash at the intersection of Maharahara Rd and Kumeti Rd, just off State Highway 2 south west of Dannevirke.

The crash temporarily blocked the
road and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

It’s understood the road has now re-opened

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said three fire trucks attended the scene to free one trapped person.
