One of the biggest advantages, and dangers of UPI is that payments don’t feel real. This is what makes UPI so deceptively easy to overspend on: ₹89, ₹149, ₹299. Cash used to make spending feel physical; a fingerprint scan does not. That’s why reviewing your UPI history once a week is so useful.
As you go through your payment history, think about each transaction and mentally put it in one of these three buckets:
Needs – Rent, groceries, medicines, school fees, electricity, transport.
Lifestyle – Eating out, shopping, salon visits, streaming subscriptions.
Impulse – Late-night desserts, random online purchases, convenience snacks, “just because” spending.
If your impulse column is growing every month, you’ve found your biggest opportunity to save, without cutting essentials.
