“The offender was not located at the time.”
The bus was travelling route 83 from Takapuna to Browns Bay.
An investigation was launched, with police asking people to help identify a man wanted in connection with the bus-ride violence.
Williams said with help from the public, the alleged attacker was identified and taken into custody yesterday.
“Police have no tolerance for violence taking place on public transport, and we will continue to prosecute those offenders,” Williams said.
Police plan to oppose bail when the man appears in court.
Earlier in June, a 15-year-old was allegedly assaulted “out of nowhere” at the Glenfield Rd bus stop and left with a bloody nose.
A video to social media showed a woman being assaulted on an Auckland bus in late May, leading to one of the teens allegedly involved in the bus incident being forced to strip off his pants and do push-ups by another group.
