A person has died after drowning in Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown.

Emergency services were notified around 10.20am that a person had been pulled from Kingston Wharf unresponsive.

Police confirmed they are in attendance near Kent St, Kingston, at the southern-most part of Lake Wakatipu, where the “sudden death” occurred.

“Sadly, the person has died at the scene,” police said. “The death will be referred to the Coroner.”
