In May, Prince William appeared on a radio show and after he requested to play “Opalite” by Taylor Swift for his kids, the co-hosts asked him if he had been invited to Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding. The Prince of Wales replied, “No comment. I’m hoping and I’m sure there might be an invitation around but we’ll see.” As the wedding date neared, however, People confirmed Prince William and Kate Middleton will not be in attendance.
Swift met Prince William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte during one of her Eras Tour stops in London. On Jason and Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast last summer, Swift reminisced on that moment, saying, “Wasn’t this the week I got to watch Jason meet the royal family?” continuing, “I knew you were serious when I was like, ‘Jason, do you wanna go meet…’” and Travis chimes in, “He was like, ‘What do I do with my beer?’” After Swift and Kelce announced their engagement in a post on Instagram, the Prince and Princess of Wales’s official account were among those to like the slideshow.
In addition, Swift and Prince William sang “Livin’ On A Prayer” with Jon Bon Jovi at a charity event at Kensington Palace in 2013. “To this day, I still do not know what came over me. Honestly, even now I’m cringing at what happened next, and I don’t understand why I gave in,” Prince William said in 2021 of that moment. “But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me…’ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, okay, that seems like a great idea. I’ll follow you.’”
