A series of activities celebrating the artist’s love of nature and humanity will run alongside a major exhibition of his work at Williamson Art Gallery & Museum, Birkenhead.
McComb, who passed away in 2018, viewed nature as a beacon of hope and limitless possibility, capturing an all-encompassing joy in his sketchbooks, sculptures, drawings, and paintings.
The events aim to provide audiences with an insight into the artist’s perspective and motivation.
Liverpool Life Drawing will host sessions alongside McComb’s exhibition, paying homage to his passion for life drawing.
These sessions will take place on Friday, August 14, September 11, and October 9.
Peter Rainsford will perform a special concert featuring Celtic songs and compositions by Beethoven and Schubert, tailored to the music McComb loved.
This will be held on Friday, October 23, with an additional open class on Saturday, October 24.
Landlines Studios will conduct workshops where participants can create their own works of art from inks and pigments gathered from the Wirral and North Wales.
These sessions will be held on Saturday, September 19, October 3, and October 17.
In line with McComb’s philosophy of the inner energy of all life, the gallery will also run yoga and sound bath sessions in the exhibition spaces.
These sessions, run by MILAP, will take place on Thursday, September 3.
Gallery curator Josh Mackarell will conduct free tours of the exhibition, providing insight into McComb’s artwork and life.
These tours will take place on Wednesday, September 2, and Friday, October 2.
The Leonard McComb: Nature and Humanity exhibition will showcase more than 60 of the artist’s finest pieces, including items from his estate and select loans from major public and private collections.
The exhibition will also feature Rock and Sea Anglesey, the largest drawing on paper held by any UK public collection.
The exhibition is scheduled to run from Friday, August 14, until Saturday, October 31.
