One person dies after vehicle enters Aorere River in Tasman District

A person has died after a vehicle crashed into a river near Collingwood in the northwest of the South Island.

Police went to Ferntown Bridge on Collingwood-Puponga Main Rd about 4pm after the vehicle entered the Aorere River.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

One person was found
in a serious condition but died at the scene despite the efforts of emergency services, police said.
