New Zealand international Liam Gillion has joined men’s A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers on a two-year deal.

Winger Gillion (23), a two-cap All White and a national U-23 international, joins Wanderers after two seasons with Auckland FC.

Joining from Auckland City, he appeared 39 times in the A-League, Australia Cup and OFC Pro League, scoring six goals and registering two assists.

“I’ve learned a lot over the past couple of seasons and I feel ready for a new challenge,” Gillion said.

“I want to keep improving as a player, contribute to the team however I can and do everything possible to help the club have a successful season.”

Western Sydney Wanderers football director Mal Impiombato said Gillion was an important addition to the Wanderers’ squad.

“Liam is an exciting talent with raw pace and a young player that who has already experienced success early in his career. He is eager to establish himself further and he has a real desire to take his game to the next level,” Impiombato said.

“We’re investing in ambitious players who can help drive this club forward, and we believe Liam will make a strong contribution as we build a squad capable of challenging for trophies.”

Auckland FC director of football Terry McFlynn said: “His two seasons at the club have not always been easy, but he’s always kept his head down and kept working hard. He’s a great professional, and I can’t wait to see what he gets up to next. I’ll definitely keep a close eye on his career.”
