The four-bedroom house on Quaifes Road, in Halswell, Christchurch, sits in the middle of a flat 3.37ha block of land zoned for development.
The large cedar-clad home was built a decade ago when the area was semi-rural and there were no real neighbours to speak of. However, it is now surrounded by hundreds of smaller homes in one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing suburbs.

Bayleys listing agent Chris Jones told OneRoof: “The general consensus was that the house was far too good to remove. I expect it will stay based on the feedback.”
The property attracted buyer interest from around the country. Jones said he received multiple offers, but the winning bid came from a local developer/builder.

Jones expected houses would start appearing on the site in the short to medium-term.
While Jones was unable to reveal the exact details of sale, he previously indicated that the vendors were looking for offers above the RV of $5.3m.
Jones said the big drawcard for the Quaifes Road site was that it was a “ready to go” development, adding that there was strong demand for these types of properties.
Jones previously told OneRoof that the newer parts of Halswell were particularly popular with second-home buyers and out-of-towners with budgets of between $900,000 and $1.1m.
“A lot of people who come to Christchurch from outside do love Halswell because it’s brand-new stock and it’s close to town.”
