Princess Alexandra is now a great-grandmother! Her granddaughter, Flora Vesterberg (née Ogilvy), welcomed her first daughter this week with husband Timothy Vesterberg, naming her after Princess Marina of Greek and Denmark, Princess Alexandra’s mother.
“Our daughter Isabel Marina Vesterberg arrived safely on the morning of 8 July,” Flora posted on Instagram, with a photograph of her newborn. “Timothy and I are overjoyed and full of love for her. She’s named for the blessing that she is as well as my paternal great-grandmother. Her name also means ‘of the sea’ where we always feel most at peace in Scotland and Sweden. Thank you for your thoughtful messages xx”
Isabel Marina is Flora and Timothy’s first child, and she becomes the first great-grandchild for Princess Alexandra, 89. At the time of her birth, Princess Alexandra, the daughter of Prince George (King George V and Queen Mary’s fourth son) and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, was sixth in line to the British throne. She is now 58th; Flora is currently 61st, and her daughter Isabel now follows her at 62nd.
Flora’s grandmother Princess Alexandra, the only living granddaughter of King George V, has significantly scaled back her public engagements in recent years. She missed Trooping the Colour in June, but in April, she made a rare appearance at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s birth, and was spotted arriving for King Charles’s Christmas luncheon at the Palace in December. Alexandra’s older brother, the Duke of Kent, 90, is still carrying out public engagements; he most recently attended Wimbledon.
