Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani may have just celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary, but an insider tells In Touch that their marriage is still very much a work in progress.
“There’s no denying that they love each other dearly, but their friends worry that love isn’t going to be enough in the long run if they don’t get serious about fixing the same old issues that have been plaguing them for years,” says the insider. “They always joke that they’re living proof opposites attract, but the reality is they’re two very different people with very different ideas about what makes them happy.”
Stefani, 56, is an “L.A. girl at heart,” the insider notes and while “she enjoys spending time” with Shelton, 50, on his Oklahoma ranch, “she doesn’t want that to be her whole life.”
As In Touch previously reported, a source says the No Doubt frontwoman would be far happier back in her home state of California.
Shelton on the other hand, “would happily spend every day in Oklahoma and has never hidden the fact that L.A. is only tolerable because Gwen is there,” reveals the insider. “They’ve been trying to find a happy medium for years and it’s still very much a work in progress.”

That’s not the only issue plaguing the couple.
“They also know they can’t keep letting work come first,” says the insider. “Even when they were both in Las Vegas doing their residencies, they hardly saw each other because they were both so busy, and that was a real wake-up call.”
Stefani has been “nagging” the country music singer to “take better care of himself” and “eat healthier” as well, the insider adds. “He rarely listens [and] that gets very frustrating for her.”
That being said, “there’s also room for Gwen to ease up a little and have some more fun with him the way she did when they first got together,” notes the insider. “The hope is that if they make this effort the spark will come back because as much as they gush over each other online, things between them aren’t wine and roses, by any means.”
