Now, a weekend appearance overseas by the studio’s president has fans fairly convinced that one of the MCU’s most popular newer heroes is about to turn up somewhere unexpected.
At Bilibili World 2026 in Shanghai on Saturday, July 11, Kevin Feige discussed Yelena Belova’s (Florence Pugh) role in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set for December 18, 2026, release. His comments quickly invited intense speculation. “If you’re a fan of Yelena, wait until Avengers: Doomsday. Yelena plays a big part in that,” Feige said (via Entertainment Weekly).
“But if you don’t want to wait until then, you might see Yelena a little bit sooner in the movies.”
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day currently scheduled for July 31, 2026, and standing as the next MCU theatrical release before Doomsday, the obvious read is that Marvel may be teasing a her appearance there rather than announcing it outright. Pugh has arguably become Marvel’s most successful post-Endgame addition, and the studio seems well aware of it.

Yelena debuted in 2021’s Black Widow as Natasha Romanoff’s adoptive sister before returning in Hawkeye and then leading 2025’s Thunderbolts*, which ended with her team rebranded as the New Avengers. With that squad set to play a central role in Avengers: Doomsday, giving Yelena a spotlight in 2026’s biggest guaranteed blockbuster is an efficient way to keep her front and center.
Brand New Day’s roster is also admittedly getting crowded. Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned are returning, while Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, Eman Esfandi, and Marvin Jones III round out the cast. Sink remains at the center of long-running Jean Grey rumors, and the talk of The Hand has kept Daredevil speculation alive as well.
Feige appeared to confirm in Shanghai that Marvel’s proper X-Men reboot will arrive after Avengers: Secret Wars, and that may be one of the more revealing long-term signals to come out of the event. Marvel’s official site lists Secret Wars for December 17, 2027, and Feige has previously described that film as a turning point for the MCU rather than just another crossover, including comments that it will “reset” the universe in some form and open the door to what comes next.
