Dr Saira Ahmed, a mental health expert, and Javaid Razzaq, Service User Involvement Lead, have appeared on Sunrise Radio to share practical guidance about recognising and responding to mental health issues, particularly within the home.

Broadcasts from the duo, both from Cygnet Hospital Bierley, aim to support families who may have limited understanding of mental health, explaining how to identify signs of deterioration and where to seek help.

It’s been a wonderful and fulfilling experience

In a joint statement to the Telegraph & Argus, Dr Ahmed and Mr Razzaq said: “It’s been a wonderful and fulfilling experience for us.

“While we usually get involved in managing mental health issues in crisis, we believe there is also scope in improving community`s awareness around mental health.

“We are working towards delivering basic facts and encourage community members to learn and enhance their understanding of mental disorders. This is a small step but we strive to continue our work and contribute our bit to society.”

As long as there is a need we will continue

Mr Razzaq, service user involvement lead at Cygnet Hospital Bierley, added: “As long as there is a need we will continue raising awareness where ever we can.

Cygnet Hospital Bierley is an independent, privately run mental health hospital on Bierley Lane in Bradford, providing specialist inpatient services for adults under the Cygnet Health Care group.
