Following the discovery of Pebbles, she said a 52-year-old North Shore woman had been charged with theft.
The woman was expected to appear in the North Shore District Court today.
Police shared the heartwarming news on social media, which was met with a flood of supportive messages thanking the officers for their work.
“Well done New Zealand Police. Pebbles is looking for a home maybe you can adopt her,” one person wrote.
“That puppy seemed quite happy to stay in the arms of the Police officer,” another said.
The video of the reunion showed a carer collecting Pebbles from the arms of two police officers.
This comes just days after a Northland woman’s three French bulldogs were unexpectedly returned, which she had feared were stolen.
Kirstin Slessor, who breeds the dogs, said her beloved Pablo, Bella and Empress went missing from secure enclosures at the back of her secluded rural Karikari Peninsula property while she was away.
French bulldogs are favoured by thieves as they are small, relatively quiet and easy to transport, Slessor said.
Pablo (left), Empress, and Bella have returned home.
She believed the dogs had been taken and feared she’d never see them again.
Days later, she received a call she had been hoping for.
A woman named Summer, who works with Bay of Islands Animal Rescue, contacted her to say the dogs were being handed over by an anonymous person who wanted them returned to their rightful owner.
The dogs had been missing for two full days.
“It was amazing. They were so excited to see me,” she said.
Slessor said her heart went out to others around the country who were still desperately searching for their missing dogs.
