BINGE’s new eight-part series is gearing up to be the hot new series that will keep us hooked well after you’ve binged (pun intended) the first series.
It’s a little bit The White Lotus, a little bit Big Little Lies, and a lot a celebration of friendships – with all it’s flaws.
The new Peacock series, based on Elin Hilderbrand’s best-selling novel of the same name, follows the story of food blogger Hollis Shaw (played by Jennifer Garner, who is also executive producer of the series). Her life begins to spiral following the sudden death of her husband and as part of her grieving process, invites four female friends from different stages of her life to her childhood home in Nantucket.
The weekend unveils a few hidden truths, including a secret her husband and one of her guests, Instagram follower Gigi, were keeping shortly before his death.
The series boasts a wholesome cast of ladies including Gemma Chan (Gigi), Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall and D’Arcy Carden.
Nineties hearthrob, Timothy Olyphant, also stars as Shaw’s ex-boyfriend.
Spoiler: he has aged like a fine wine! And we might see more of him if creator of the series, Bekah Brunstetter, has her way.

During a recent chat, the writer and executive producer, hinted that the finale of The Five Star Weekend was mixed around compared to happenings in the book in an attempt to keep things open for a second and possibly third and fourth series.
Just as we’ve seen with hit series The White Lotus, the hope for The Five Star Weekend is to move it along to a different country with some key players returning for a new mystery unravelling.
Without giving too much away, The Five Star Weekend ends with Shaw suggesting that their girlfriend gatherings become an annual event, with the pitch of going to Greece being a firm favourite for their next location.
According to Brunstetter, the line in the finale is definitely directed at Peacock executives as the idea of a second series is still being debated behind the scenes.
“The way we set up the show is that they could do a million girls’ trips,” she shared, as reported by Gold Derby.
“That’s our dream. We have to see what the audience thinks and what Peacock thinks,” she continued.
“But we’ve designed the show so that they could really go anywhere, and we’d be meeting up with them again each year. And Gigi’s not invited!”
Now, I’ve been to my fair share of weekends away with girlfriends and from experience, I know that every fun weekend away always ends up with a follow-up. My money is on a sequel announcement very soon. And perhaps another after that …
