Tom Cruise has zeroed in on Charlize Theron, a source tells Globe.

According to a new report from MyTimeToShine, the Oscar-winning actress, 50, is being eyed for an undisclosed role in The Edge of Tomorrow 2.

“Charlize has been on Tom’s radar for a long time and he’s incredibly impressed by her,” says Globe’s source. “The timing is right for him and Charlize to get together and do something big and interesting.”

Despite their decades in the film industry, the pair have yet to share the silver screen together, although they did come close. In 2008, Vulture reported that Theron, 50, was in negotiations to star alongside Cruise, 64, in The Tourist, roles that ultimately went to Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp.

“Putting them in a film together, be it Edge of Tomorrow 2 or something else, makes a ton of sense. In fact, it’s long overdue,” the source says. “She has that same ‘no guts, no glory’ risk-taking attitude that made Tom an international superstar in the first place and like Tom, she sees moviemaking not as just a job but a calling.”

But for Cruise, “it’s about more than just business,” hints the source.

As Globe previously reported, an insider says the Mission: Impossible star was crushed when things with Ana de Armas ended last year but is ready to find someone new.

“He’s been intrigued by Charlize and her approach to life for years now,” the source spills. “But now that both of them are single and both are looking for their next big action movie, there’s a real opportunity here for collaboration and even romance.”
