Zepto, the app that promises to bring your groceries in ten minutes, has turned five, and it is not letting the moment pass quietly.

Open the app this week, and a birthday reel is waiting. It is a film strip of illustrated frames that tells the story of how a start-up launched in 2021 became one of the apps Indians now reach for without thinking.

The reel starts at the beginning: 2021, two founders on a pink scooter, and one simple promise: delivery in minutes. From there, it moves through the years. By 2022, Zepto says, it was running more than 250 stores and delivering 2.5 lakh orders a day. By 2023, it was stocking over 80,000 products. In 2024, Zepto Cafe caught on. And by 2025, the reel claims, it was delivering 25 lakh orders in a single day.

Then the reel turns to you. It knows the city you order from, the year of your first order, and how many times you have ordered, so the film you watch is not quite the one your neighbour sees.

It ends warmly, on the two founders, a thank-you for being part of the journey, and a single line: ‘For us, it’s still Day One.’

Zepto is an Indian quick-commerce company headquartered in Bengaluru. It was founded in July 2021 by Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra. It was first launched in Mumbai in April 2021.
