Disclosure Day is the latest extraterrestrial adventure from acclaimed director Steven Spielberg, who has returned to the genre again and again over the years with movies like Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), E.T. (1982), and War of the Worlds (2005). Disclosure Day follows the parallel stories of Dr. Daniel Kellner (Josh O’Connor), a cybersecurity specialist determined to share proof of alien life with the world; and Margaret Fairchild (Emily Blunt), a Kansas City meteorologist who begins to exhibit psychic abilities after she has her own close encounter.
Disclosure Day opened in the United States on Jun. 12, 2026. Now, the movie’s listing on Amazon reveals that it will be available to buy or rent through digital platforms on Jul. 20, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. PDT, which means it will be available a few hours later on the East Coast, at midnight. You can pre-order the movie now on Amazon for $24.99.
That means that Disclosure Day will be available to stream digitally 38 days after it opened in theaters, a bit over a month. That’s roughly equivalent to how long Universal usually waits before making modestly priced movies like Reminders of Him available to stream. The studio generally waits longer to release bigger hits like Wicked: For Good or The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. That suggests that Disclosure Day wasn’t performing well enough to justify keeping it in theaters longer.
That said, the movie didn’t perform poorly either. Disclosure Day cost $115 million to make. That’s a hefty budget, but not even half of what was spent on movies like The Odyssey or Disney’s live-action Moana remake, each of which cost $250 million. Disclosure Day made nearly $230 million at the worldwide box office, which is respectable, but probably not enough for the movie to actually be profitable. Factoring in marketing costs, Disclosure Day would have needed to make around $300 million to cross that threshold.
Even so, Disclosure Day got solid (if not spectacular) reviews and became Spielberg’s highest-grossing film since Ready Player One in 2018. It will very likely make a profit once it’s available to rent or buy on streaming for a couple of weeks. All the people who didn’t think it was worth going to a theater to see will get a chance to watch it at home.
Eventually, Disclosure Day will be available to stream directly on Peacock, but there’s no release date for that as yet. It will likely land on the service in September or October.
