With 24 Grand Slam titles, an Olympic gold medal and a record 428 weeks at the top of the ATP rankings, Novak Djokovic has made history and redefined the limits of success in professional tennis. In an interview for Vogue Adria’s July 2024 cover story, the Greatest of All Time said he considers his “superpower to be his ability to adjust or adapt”, but that has never meant conforming to the rules. Countless times, when people predicted it was all over for him, whether in a match or his career, we watched him display the unshakable mental strength to come back even stronger. Yet despite everything he has achieved, there are still those who question him. Now, Prime Video’s long-awaited documentary Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter finally tells his story, revealing every layer of a personality shaped by extraordinary circumstances.

What is the documentary about?
The story begins with Novak’s early childhood and his upbringing during a period of war and financial hardship, when his family sacrificed everything to enable him to develop his talent and pursue his calling. When he emerged on the professional scene, Novak was not welcomed with open arms but met with resistance, particularly because he found himself between the two greatest rivals, Federer and Nadal. With exclusive access to the behind-the-scenes world of major tournaments, his intense training regimen and private moments with his family, the film offers an unprecedented insight into Djokovic’s world. The documentary features interviews with his wife, Jelena, as well as tennis legends such as Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Boris Becker and Jim Courier, along with leading voices in tennis journalism, including Mary Carillo and Patrick McEnroe.
“Tennis has given me so much, but the greatest battles have never been fought only on the court. This documentary is about the moments people did not see, the doubts, the sacrifices and the work that goes into constantly transcending the story many think they know,” says Novak. “My journey has been incredible, but it is not over yet.”
“Novak gave us completely unrestricted access to his relentless physical and mental preparation as he competes at the highest level of the sport against players who are sometimes half his age,” said director Jason Hehir. “He is a fascinating person, and I am excited for audiences to see this exploration of one of the greatest of all time at a pivotal moment, in the final stage of a brilliant career.”
