“As the driver parked up to let a passenger off, the offender entered the bus and allegedly assaulted the driver before fleeing.”
The driver was taken to hospital with facial injuries and is at home recovering.
A 34-year-old man was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The vehicle involved in the incident with the bus was a rental and officers linked it to a suspect, with a man arrested in Māngere later in the evening.
Goldie said it was unacceptable violence.
“Police do not tolerate any violence on public transport, and we will continue to locate and prosecute these offenders.”
