However, the pursuit continued into a residential area, with the officer’s partner again asking to abandon the pursuit.
This request was again ignored as the dirt bike rode on to the footpath and entered a park via its pedestrian entrance.
At this point, the officer braked suddenly, lost control of the patrol car and crashed into parked cars.
The investigation included an examination of the patrol car data, which showed that before the collision, the patrol car was travelling at 144km/h in the 50km/h residential zone.
Police charged the officer with dangerous driving, to which the officer pleaded guilty and was convicted.
Eastern District Commander Superintendent Joel Lamb said the officer was still employed with the police, “following a confidential employment process”.
“We hold our people to a high standard.”
In a statement, the IPCA said it was satisfied with the outcome of police investigations.
