McCartney, a two-time Olympian, won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Tom Walsh was also competing at the World Athletics meeting in Budapest, finishing fourth in the men’s shot put with a throw of 21.38m. Leonardo Fabri of Italy won with 22.04m.
The final competitions for the New Zealand track and field athletes before the Glasgow event have been confirmed, with Zoe Hobbs to run as favourite in the 100m at the Madrid meeting on Friday (NZ time). Walsh, Jacko Gill and Nick Palmer will compete in the shot put there, while Ethan Olivier is in the triple jump and Lauren Bruce competes in the hammer throw.
Anna Grimaldi will start in the women’s para ambulant 100m at the London Diamond League meeting this weekend, while Sam Tanner will run in the 1500m at the KBC Night of Athletics in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, also at the weekend.
